Akwa Ibom state government commissioned DynCorp International LLC, as the contractor for the construction of the International Airport. SDEM Erectors Nigeria Limited was appointed as the sub-contractor AP-005 to handle the following four structures of the project:
- Interim Terminal Building (ITB)
- Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT)
- Air Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility (ARFFF)
- Air Lighting Vault (ALV)
Akwa Ibom International Airport (AKIA) will be the most modern and comprehensive airport in West Africa. It is designed to meet increasing demands for aviation in the region, including substantial new demand for air cargo capacity spurred by recent discoveries of new oil and gas reserves in the Gulf of Guinea, and a demand for commercial aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul Facilities in West Africa.

SDEM ERECTORS NIGERIA LIMITED congratulates the Federal Government of Nigeria and Siemens AG of Germany on the official commissioning of the 414MW Geregu Gas Turbine Power Plant by His Excellency, President Olusegun Obasanjo on the 26th of February 2007.
We are proud of our contributions on this project as the Main Sub Contractor to Siemens for the erection of all mechanical components on this landmark project.
